Interactions App: Add Questions and Answers to Your Graphic

For interactive tools like the Tactonom Reader Flex, there is the Interactions App, which allows you to add tasks — i.e. questions and answers — to any graphic. Feedback for solving the tasks can be provided through the interactive tools.

Access is available in each graphic editor view via the button bar at the very bottom. Click the “Interactions App” button to add your own interactions. The app is fully accessible. A key requirement for easily and accessibly adding interactions is assigning meaningful and distinct titles to the audio fields.

The app opens in a new tab. You can create, edit, and save interactions there, and then return to the graphic in the previous tab.

User Interface of the Interactions App

The User Interface of the Interactions App provides a preview of the graphic with selectable and playable audio fields, as well as a color map that displays all audio fields at once.

The first step is to select the appropriate type of interaction. Clicking the “Add Interactions” button in the top right opens a window with descriptions of the available types: “Find Object,” “Find Pairs,” “Find Groups,” “Follow Path,” and “Multiple Choice.” Click “Add Interaction” for one of the types.

Each interaction can be given a custom name. The title must be defined in the “Name” input field. If left blank, the interaction will automatically be given a default name, such as “Find Objects.” For blind or visually impaired users with screen readers, it is recommended to select “New Task” when adding a custom activity, as this allows elements to be selected via a dropdown menu. For sighted users, the “Add tasks from graphic” option is especially user-friendly, since elements can be selected directly by clicking on them in the preview.

Accessible Interactions-App

Find Object:
Click on “New Task.” You can define a custom question or task in the input field (for example: “Can you find the large square?”) and combine it with a target element via the dropdown menu.
Click “Save” once all tasks have been created.

Find Pair:
Click on “New Task.” Two elements that should form a pair can be defined via two dropdown menus.
Click “Save” once all tasks have been created.

Find Group:
Click on “New Group.” Instead of “New Task,” click “New Group.” You can then define a question for the desired group via an input field (for example: “Can you find all 5 squares in the graphic?”). Then select “Add Element” to define the first element of the group. You can then add all other elements to the group and save the interaction.

Follow Path:
Click on “New Path.” A custom question or task can be defined via the input field (for example: “Sort the elements from largest to smallest by tapping.”). Then, all elements of the path can be added in a specific order using the “Add Element” button and the dropdown menus.
Click “Save” once the path sequence of elements is complete.

Multiple Choice:
Click on “New Question” and enter a question in the “Question” input field. You can then enter two different answer options in column 1 and 2. Click “Add Answer Option” if more choices are needed. Select “New Question” to create additional questions.
